Top-down 8-ball pool with real ball physics: elastic collisions, cushion bounces, friction and pockets. Aim with a guide line that shows the ghost ball and where the object ball will go, pull the power bar and shoot. Full rules: break, open table, solids and stripes, fouls with ball in hand, and a legal 8 to win. Play the computer on Easy, Medium or Hard, or pass the device for 2 players.

How to play

Break the rack, then pot all balls of your group (solids 1-7 or stripes 9-15, decided by your first legal pot) before sinking the 8 ball. Hit one of your own balls first and make a ball touch a cushion or drop, or it is a foul and your opponent gets ball in hand. Potting the 8 early or scratching on it loses the game.

Controls

Drag or tap on the table to aim. Pull the power bar and release to shoot, or press Shoot. With ball in hand, drag the cue ball to place it. Keyboard: Left/Right to aim (Shift for fine), Up/Down for power, Space or Enter to shoot, Alt+arrows to move the cue ball in hand, Esc for the menu.

Tips and strategy

  • Your group is set by the first ball you legally pot after the break, so choose an easy early pot to pick the group with better lies.
  • On a normal shot, if nothing drops, some ball must touch a cushion after contact, or it is a foul and gives ball in hand.
  • Use ball in hand to place the cue ball anywhere for an easy pot, since most fouls allow free placement on the whole table.
  • Hold Shift with the Left and Right keys for fine aim when lining up a thin cut shot.
  • Only aim at the 8 after your group is cleared, because potting it early or with a foul loses the game.

Pool Break FAQ

What happens if I pot the 8 ball on the break in Pool Break?

It is not a loss. The 8 ball is put back on the table near the foot spot and play continues.

What counts as a foul in Pool Break?

Scratching the cue ball, missing every ball, hitting an opponent ball or the 8 first, or failing to make any ball reach a cushion or pocket after contact are fouls.

Where can I place the cue ball after a foul in Pool Break?

After most fouls you get ball in hand anywhere on the table. A scratch on the break places it behind the head string instead.

Can I play Pool Break against the computer?

Yes. You can play the computer on Easy, Medium or Hard, or pass the device to play a 2-player game.
