A bite-size survivor action game: move your hero across an endless meadow while weapons fire automatically at swarms of slimes, bats, skeletons, ghosts and golems. Collect XP gems, level up to pick from 6 weapons and 6 passives, evolve two weapon combos, open chests from elites, beat a mini-boss every 2 minutes and defeat the Ogre King at 10:00. Gold from every run buys permanent upgrades and unlocks two more heroes.

How to play

Move to dodge monsters; your weapons attack on their own. Walk over XP gems to fill the bar and level up, then pick one of three upgrades. Max a weapon and own its paired passive to evolve it (Throwing Knives + Tick Clock, Holy Aura + Heart Charm). Elites and mini-bosses drop chests with free upgrades. Survive to 10:00 and defeat the Ogre King to win. Spend gold between runs on permanent upgrades and new heroes.

Controls

WASD or arrow keys to move, drag anywhere on touch screens for a virtual joystick, 1/2/3 to choose level-up cards, P or Esc to pause.

Tips and strategy

  • Blade Storm needs Throwing Knives at max level 6 plus at least one level of Tick Clock, so pick up Tick Clock early in a knife build.
  • Sanctuary evolves a level 6 Holy Aura with Heart Charm and also heals you, which makes it a natural goal for Bram, who starts with Holy Aura.
  • Hunt elites and mini-bosses for chests: a chest delivers a ready evolution instantly, and otherwise upgrades a weapon or passive you own.
  • You only get four weapon slots and four passive slots, so plan your build instead of grabbing every new card offered.
  • Push for survival time even on losing runs, because gold is kept either way and includes a bonus for how long you lasted.

How do I unlock more heroes in Horde Hero?

Spend gold between runs. Rook, who starts with Whip Arc, is free. Mira is fast and starts with Throwing Knives for 250 gold, and Bram has 130 HP, +1 armor and Holy Aura for 600 gold.

Do I keep my gold if I die in Horde Hero?

Yes. Gold from a run is added to your total whether you win or lose, including a small bonus based on time survived. The Greed permanent upgrade adds 15% more gold per level.

When do the bosses appear in Horde Hero?

Mini-bosses arrive at 2, 4, 6 and 8 minutes, and extra-large swarms hit at 1:30, 3:30, 5:30, 7:30 and 9:30. The Ogre King appears at 10:00, and defeating him wins the run.
