Slide and merge matching number tiles to reach 2048. Play the classic puzzle with swipe, keyboard, or on-screen controls and automatic saves on your device.

How to play

Slide all tiles in one direction. Matching tiles merge once per move, and a new 2 or 4 appears after a successful move. Reach 2048 to win, then keep playing if you like. The game ends when no legal moves remain.

Controls

Swipe the board, use arrow keys or WASD, or press the direction buttons. New game asks before replacing your board. There is no timer.

Tips and strategy

  • New tiles are a 2 nine times out of ten and a 4 the rest of the time, so keep space open for fresh 2s near your merging edge.
  • Keep your highest tile in one corner and avoid the direction that would pull it out.
  • Each merge adds the new tile's value to your score, so chaining merges in one move scores faster than single merges.
  • A move that slides no tiles does not count and spawns nothing, so try another direction instead of losing a turn.

2048 FAQ

Can I undo a move in 2048?

No. There is no undo button, so every slide is final. Plan moves that keep your highest tile in its corner.

What happens after I reach 2048?

You win, and a Keep playing button lets you continue on the same board to chase bigger tiles like 4096.

Does 2048 save my game?

Yes. Your current board and best score are saved automatically in your browser, so you can close the page and continue later. Starting a new game asks for confirmation first.
