A classic paddle-and-ball brick buster. Angle your shots off the paddle, crack multi-hit and steel bricks, dodge around unbreakable gold blocks, and catch falling capsules for wide paddle, multi-ball, lasers, slow ball, sticky catch and extra lives across 16 hand-built levels.

How to play

Launch the ball and keep it in play with your paddle. Where the ball hits the paddle sets its angle: the center sends it straight up, the edges send it off sharply. Clear every breakable brick to finish the level; colored bricks break in one hit, outlined bricks need two, steel needs three, and gold blocks never break. Catch falling capsules for power-ups. You have 3 lives, and cleared levels unlock the next one in the level select.

Controls

Move the paddle with the mouse, by dragging on touch screens, or with the arrow keys or A/D. Click, tap or press Space to launch the ball or release a caught ball. Press P or Escape to pause.

Tips and strategy

  • Keep the ball away from the paddle to build combos: every 5 bricks broken between paddle touches raises the point multiplier, up to x4.
  • Steel bricks are worth 200 and two-hit bricks 100 when broken, versus 50 for colored bricks, and every hit that does not break one adds 10.
  • The ball speeds up slightly with every paddle hit, and a Slow ball capsule cuts its speed by more than a third for 10 seconds.
  • Losing a life wipes out all active power-ups, so play it safe while you have lasers or a wide paddle.
  • Finish levels with lives to spare: the clear bonus is 1000 plus 250 for each remaining life, and extra-life capsules raise you to a maximum of 6.

Brick Breaker FAQ

What power-ups are in Brick Breaker?

Capsules can give a wide paddle for 15 seconds, multi-ball, lasers for 10 seconds, a slow ball for 10 seconds, a sticky paddle for 15 seconds, or an extra life.

Can gold blocks be destroyed in Brick Breaker?

No. Gold blocks never break and do not need to be cleared; a level is finished once every breakable brick is gone.

Does Brick Breaker save my progress?

Yes. Your best score, unlocked levels and cleared levels are saved in this browser's local storage, so you can pick up from the level select.
